Ingredients

  • 2 oz white rum
  • 1/2 lime cut into wedges
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 6 –8 fresh mint leaves
  • Club soda or soda water
  • Ice

Equipment

  • Highball glass
  • Muddler (or back of spoon)
  • Jigger or measuring tool
  • Bar spoon
  • Citrus knife

Method

Prep
  1. Cut lime into wedges
  2. Lightly rinse mint leaves (don’t bruise them yet)
Instructions
  1. Add lime wedges and sugar to your glass
  2. Use a muddler to gently press and twist until:
  3. - Sugar starts dissolving into lime juice
  4. - Mixture becomes slightly syrupy
  5. Add mint leaves and lightly press (don’t crush hard — releases flavor without bitterness)
  6. Fill the glass with ice
  7. Pour in white rum
  8. Top with club soda
  9. Stir gently to combine
  10. Garnish with extra mint and a lime wedge
  11. Serve immediately

Notes

  • Don’t over-muddle mint — it turns bitter if crushed too hard
  • Always use fresh lime juice (not bottled)
  • Adjust sugar to taste depending on how sweet you like it
  • Crushed ice gives a more authentic feel, but cubes work fine
  • Goes great with grilled food, tacos, seafood, or light appetizers
